The importance of international students in Australia is pretty high as it contributes approx. $40 billion to the country’s economy and many of them go on to become responsible citizens of the country.

The current COVID-19 situation has thrown up significant challenges for every sector, including education (offshore and onshore). Many students who already have a student visa couldn’t travel and are waiting for the borders to re-open. Students who are already in Australia may also face some financial struggle due to the current pandemic.

In the previous blog, we have already discussed the COVID-19 insurance coverage for the students who are already here in Australia. Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) starts from the day you land in Australia.

But what about the students who couldn’t move to Australia due to the closure of international borders? This article aims to resolve some queries related to the health cover for students who are in their home country. But before that, let’s look at some rule changes to ensure the students are not worse-off during this situation.

What measures are taken for international students?

The government had permitted international students to work more than 40 hours per fortnight for a limited period at major supermarkets, Aged Care facilities and hospitals due to the situation. Although, from 1 May, the relaxation was lifted.

Students who are outside Australia at this moment have some common concerns about their OSHC Australia.

We have summed up these frequent queries below:

Why do I need an OSHC if I am not in Australia?

It is a mandatory requirement for the overseas students to have an OSHC at the time of applying for a student visa under 8501 conditions. There are some exemptions for the students who belong to the Reciprocal Health Care Agreement with Australia.

The OSHC documents will be required at the time of applying for your visa. Even if you are not in Australia, you need an OSHC, because if you have a visa, you can travel as soon as the borders re-open. However, your cover only commences from the day you arrive in the country.

Can I cancel my policy?

You must keep an overseas student health cover for those on a valid student visa to satisfy the student visa requirements. If your visa has been revoked or refused at the time of application, you can cancel your policy and the insurer’s standard termination and refund rules will apply. Supporting proof would be needed, such as a notice of visa refusal or cancellation.

You cannot cancel your policy if you are studying online from overseas unless you have already cancelled your visa and will no longer return to Australia.

Can I get a refund if I am not using it?

Suppose, you have an OSHC Nib, and you have not been able to travel because of the border closure. However, you will still come to Australia at some point. In that case, you can change the policy dates.

You will be required to send confirmation of enrolment to confirm the new dates or, once you arrive, provide your flight information so that they can modify your policy dates accordingly.

All insurance providers are happy to accommodate change of date requests and re-issue OSHC as per the new travel dates and revised course duration, once the border restrictions are lifted.

Can I cancel my OSHC policy if I am not coming to Australia?

If you are no longer coming to Australia, you can cancel the OSHC policy.

If I contract COVID-19 Overseas, will it be considered a pre-existing condition?

Know More: How Are OSHC Providers in Australia Responding During COVID-19 Pandemic?

Most of the insurance providers, such as BUPA, are providing services without evaluation of whether the presenting condition is pre-existing. It is applicable for out-patient medical facilities such as GP visits and examinations (e.g. pathology). But, in case you need to get admitted to a hospital or require repatriation, a standard pre-existing assessment may apply. The insurer will individually evaluate each case. It would be best if you contact your insurance provider to know more detailed information.

You can also get in touch with GetMyPolicy customer support executive if you need any assistance in purchasing your OSHC or visit GetMyPolicy.online.

As we welcome a new era of global connectivity and opportunities, we at Aussizz Group are noticing an inspiring trend. It involves you, the driven students from third world countries with dreams as vast as the Australian outback. You’re not merely dreaming of a better life abroad; you’re sharpening your skills and striving to fill Australia’s talent gap.

An old Australian saying comes to mind: “You make your own luck.” This statement is a testament to your resilience and diligence, thousands of miles away, as you take bold steps towards your Australian dream. But why Australia? What’s driving this trend, and how are you overcoming the challenges?

Why Australia?

Australia is a land full of opportunities. It has more to offer than just beautiful scenery and a good standard of living. We see a future for you in which you are a part of an industry that is on the rise and gives you good job growth. Australia is leading the way in fields like science and healthcare, and you could be a part of this exciting journey.

Now, think about how your future children will gain from an education system that is known all over the world. Australia’s public education system gives them the skills they need to succeed in a world economy that changes quickly.

And it’s not just about you or your kids; it’s about the health of your whole family. Medicare, Australia’s health care system, gives you and your family access to health care services that are either free or very cheap.

Also, you’ll live in a culture that values diversity and is made up of many different kinds of people. You can be proud of your own culture while also learning about the rich culture of Australia.

The Promise of a Better Future in Australia

Australia stands out when you look at your choices, doesn’t it? Let’s try to figure out why. Australia, unlike many countries in the third world, has a strong economy. It’s like moving onto solid ground, where you can look forwards to having a job for a long time, making more money, and living better.

You can also relax because Australia’s job market gives workers strong rights and fair pay. So, you’re not just working—you’re working in a safe place where people treat you with respect.

Another really exciting thing is that Australia gives many skilled newcomers a way to stay there permanently. You’re not just moving to a new country for a few years; you can build a long-term life here by getting your own home, using social services, and maybe even becoming a citizen one day.

Plus, imagine living in a place that is known for its high quality of life. You’d want to raise your family in Australia, wouldn’t you? It has a clean environment, a low crime rate, great health care, and a good school system.

I understand that migration is a massive step and there are many factors you need to consider. But think about it – the economic stability, high living standards, career opportunities, and the chance for permanent residency – doesn’t Australia seem like an attractive option for you?

How You Fit In: You, Australia, and the Talent Gap

Australia, like many developed nations, is having trouble finding the right people for different jobs. They need people with skills in tech, IT, and health care. You might be one of those people. Could you be the thing that’s been missing?

With your strong intellectual background, you could be learning the language, mastering the skills, and getting ready for the global market. It’s not enough to just move to a new place; you also need to make a difference.

The Roadmap: Skill-Building for Australia

Do you want to know how to close this gap? The answer is right in front of you. You have access to online learning platforms, language classes, and internships, among other things. And it’s not just up to you; many Australian universities give scholarships to international students. This makes it easier than ever for people to get a world-class education.

Distance no longer determines what you can do.
You could be in any part of the world and still have access to information and skills on a global scale. This opening up of education to everyone is a game-changer that will help you fight on an even playing field with people from the first world.

Challenges in the Australian Dream: How to Face Them and Win

The trip won’t be easy, but it will be worth it. You might have trouble getting used to a new culture, managing your money in a place with a high cost of living, or speaking the language. But these aren’t problems; they’re chances to grow and get stronger.

We are seeing a shift in the way things are done. It’s not about rich countries giving money to poor countries. It’s up to the students from these countries to step up, take advantage of chances, and help their host countries.

This trend shows how ambitious people can be and how far they are willing to go to find better chances. It is a story about hope, growth, and the strength of the human spirit, which is very moving.

As we try to figure out where this trend is going, we are told that dreams have no limits. We can change our lives no matter where we are in the world. So, the next time you think about Australia, think about these amazing people who are making their mark in a different country.

And that’s what makes our world so beautiful, isn’t it?
We can change our lives no matter where we come from or what the odds are. We make our own luck, after all.

Remember that we at Aussizz Group, the most trusted education and migration consultancy in Australia, are here to help you through this process.

Australia’s Game Plan for its International Education Sector

Australia, a land of opportunities, has always been a top choice for international students.

With its robust education system, diverse culture, and breathtaking landscapes, it’s no wonder students from over 190 countries flock here to fulfil their dreams.

Amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic, Australia’s government has put forth an ambitious strategy spanning from 2021 to 2030 to revitalise the international education sector. The aim is to attract students worldwide and strengthen the educational experience for all, ensuring a promising future for everyone involved.

A Look at Australia’s Education Sector

Any claim without some hard data is just rumour and we do not believe in speculations!

International education has been a major contributor to Australia’s social, cultural, and economic prosperity.

Over the last decade, it has injected nearly a quarter of a trillion dollars into the Australian economy. In 2019 alone, international education generated a staggering $40.3 billion, making it the country’s largest services export and the fourth-largest export sector overall.

This has been stated clearly in the article

The Impact of the Pandemic on International Education

However, we can’t ignore the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Closed borders led to a drastic drop in student registrations, with some areas experiencing up to 70% fewer enrollments than before the pandemic. Introduction

Going abroad, especially to a country that is in an economically and socio-politically better place, is not just better for you but for your country as well. How?

One word: REMITTANCES!

For our readers who are not aware of remittances, it’s the money that migrants send home to their families in their home countries.

Want to guess which country is the 4th largest recipient of remittances?

Yes, it’s the Philippines. Remittances account for about 10% of the country’s GDP!

And that’s great news!

The Role of Overseas Filipinos in Fuelling the Growth of the Philippines

The remittances received by Filipinos benefit the Philippines in several ways.

For starters, they contribute to the country’s economic growth. Migrants who send money home essentially bring in a flow of foreign currency. This can increase the demand for goods and services, boosting the economy as a result.

Second, remittances help to reduce poverty. In the Philippines, remittances are often used to meet basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter. They can also be used to pay for education and healthcare, which can help improve the quality of life for families.

Third, remittances contribute to the development of social capital. When migrants send money home, they are frequently able to assist their families in starting businesses or purchasing homes. This can contribute to the creation of a more stable and affluent society.

Remittances have a lot of social benefits in addition to their economic rewards. Remittances, for example, can help close the gender gap by giving women more financial freedom. They can also contribute to better child welfare by giving families the resources they need to care for their children.

Overall, remittances are an important source of income for many Filipino households. They contribute to the growth of the economy, the reduction of poverty, and the development of social capital. As a result, remittances play an essential role in the growth of the Philippines.

Here are some specific ways that the Philippines is benefiting from remittances:

Personal Benefits: Why You Should be Going Abroad

The idea of leaving your home country and heading to another one can be a big decision. But honestly, exploring better opportunities in other countries can truly be life-changing, especially for Filipinos seeking a brighter future.

Want to know why you should consider going abroad?

Better economic opportunities:
Many countries provide greater economic prospects than the Philippines.

Better countries often provide a wider range of job opportunities and higher wages compared to the limited options available locally. Exposure to advanced industries and technologies can boost your skill set and open doors to rewarding careers.

Therefore, it is simpler to afford and maintain a more comfortable life for oneself and one’s family when one has a higher salary, better benefits, and greater job security.

Plus, the experience you acquire abroad can help you stand out in the job market when you return to the Philippines.

Better education system:
Countries such as the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom have improved their education systems so that they are globally recognised. This indicates that you could obtain a world-class education that would equip you with the skills necessary to succeed in the global economy of today.

Their education exposes you to the most up-to-date research and teaching techniques, enhances your academic journey, and improves your prospects of securing rewarding careers both overseas and back home.

Better quality of life:
Moving to a better country often comes with higher earning potential and improved standards of living.

With better wages, you can provide a more comfortable life for yourself and your family. Additionally, the economic stability of these countries can offer greater financial security and access to better healthcare, education, and social welfare systems.

More opportunities to grow:
Going abroad exposes you to different cultures, traditions, and ways of life, increasing your potential for personal development. It broadens your perspective and contributes to your growth personally and professionally.

By actively participating in this new environment, you will gain valuable insights, develop a global perspective, and become more adaptable. These skills are quite essential in the interconnected world of today.

Personal Growth and Independence
Living abroad requires you to leave your comfort zone and become more self-reliant. It helps you develop autonomy, resilience, and a stronger sense of self.

You’ll learn how to adapt to new places, get past cultural differences, and make friends and coworkers from all over the world. These things help us learn about ourselves and grow as people.

Australia: The Perfect Place for Filipinos to Settle

Having read this far means that you’re probably thinking about going abroad to a better country. We understand why you would want to do that. The Philippines is a great country, but it can be tough to make a living here.

So, if you have the opportunity to make a better life for yourself by going abroad, I say go for Australia!

It’s going to be great, and you won’t regret it because…

A Prosperous Economy

Australia boasts one of the world’s strongest and most resilient economies.

The country has consistently achieved remarkable economic growth over the years, with a GDP growth rate of 3.2% in 2022 despite global challenges. This stability translates into ample job opportunities and higher wages for migrants.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the average weekly earnings in Australia are significantly higher compared to many other countries. With a strong currency and a low unemployment rate of around 5%, it offers a favourable environment for Filipinos to secure their financial future.

Excellent Education and Healthcare Systems

Australia takes pride in its world-class education and healthcare systems.

With numerous globally recognised universities, colleges, and vocational institutions, the country provides high-quality education across various disciplines.

Moreover, the Australian government invests significantly in research and development, making it an ideal destination for students and professionals alike.

The healthcare system is also renowned for its accessibility and high standards, ensuring that migrants have access to comprehensive medical care.

Multiculturalism and Diversity

As a melting pot of cultures, Australia provides an inclusive and welcoming society. Being the second largest migrant community after India, you will find a thriving Filipino community across major Australian cities, feeling a sense of belonging and support.

Celebrations of cultural diversity are deeply ingrained in Australian society, with vibrant festivals and events throughout the year. Diversity is valued and embraced there, making it easier for everyone, including the Filipina community, to integrate into the local community while preserving their own cultural heritage.

Pristine Natural Environment
From stunning beaches to breathtaking landscapes, Australia is a paradise for nature lovers.

The country boasts a diverse range of flora and fauna, including unique species found nowhere else in the world.

Imagine exploring the Great Barrier Reef, hiking through the Blue Mountains, or experiencing the vastness of the Outback. Australia offers abundant opportunities for outdoor adventures and a high quality of life in close proximity to nature.

Geographical Advantage
Australia’s geographical location offers numerous advantages for Filipinos looking to migrate. Firstly, the country’s time zone is favourable for maintaining communication with family and friends back home. With only a few hours’ time difference between Australia and the Philippines, it becomes easier to stay connected and bridge the distance. Additionally, Australia’s geographical proximity to the Asia-Pacific region opens opportunities for business and trade, enhancing economic growth and facilitating connections with neighbouring countries.

Cultural Aspect
Australia’s multicultural society is a testament to its welcoming nature and respect for diversity. As a Filipino immigrant, you can expect to find a vibrant and supportive community that celebrates multiculturalism. The Filipino community in Australia is thriving, with various cultural associations, events, and festivals that provide a sense of belonging and the opportunity to connect with fellow Filipinos. Moreover, Australia’s cultural landscape is a fusion of Indigenous heritage, British influence, and the contributions of migrants from all corners of the globe, creating a diverse and vibrant society.

Conclusion

Australia offers an incredible blend of opportunities, cultural diversity, and a high standard of living, making it an ideal destination for Filipinos seeking a brighter future.

Australia’s New Visa Rules have brought in a pool of possibilities for Indian students studying in Australian colleges and universities. This beautiful country has flung its gate wide open for international students, providing them with a secure future and opportunities in abundance.

This list of updates starts with a piece of great news:

Indian students from Australian institutions may seek to work there for up to 8 years starting on July 1. Additionally, starting in July 2023, the maximum number of hours that international students may work in Australia will increase from 40 to 48 per fortnight.

New Visa Rule for Indian Graduates in Australia

Starting July 1, 2023, Indian graduates from Australian universities and colleges are eligible to apply to work in Australia for up to eight years.

This extended work period provides an incredible chance for graduates to immerse themselves in the Australian job market, gain valuable experience, and establish their careers on an international scale.

This rule comes as part of the Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-Professionals Scheme (MATES), which will annually provide 3,000 spots for young professionals from India to work in Australia for two years without needing visa sponsorship.

The MATES visa is a win-win situation for both Australia and the professionals from India who’ll be contributing their skills to the thriving Australian workforce.

As part of the exchange, Australians can now apply for an S-5 visa to conduct research in India for up to three years.

This exchange program fosters collaboration and knowledge-sharing between the two countries, enabling researchers to delve into diverse fields and progress together.

Eligibility and Fields for the MATES Visa

Applicants must be under 31 years old, recent graduates from recognised universities, and at an early stage in their careers.

Eligible fields for this visa include Engineering, Mining, FinTech, AI, ICT, AgriTech, and Renewable Energy.

So, the young exploding workforce can now explore new horizons and contribute their innovative ideas to the Australian workforce. These dynamic industries offer a wide range of opportunities for skilled professionals to excel and make a lasting impact like developing sustainable energy solutions to revolutionizing financial technology.

Extended Post-Study Work Rights

Eligible international higher education graduates will be granted an extra two years of post-study work rights on their Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) from July 2023.

Changes to the Work Hour Cap for International Students

The work hour cap for international students in Australia will be increased from 40 to 48 hours per fortnight from July 2023.

This extension provides students with more opportunities to earn income while pursuing their studies, making it easier to manage living expenses and gain practical work experience.

Remember, it’s essential to maintain course enrolment, attendance, and satisfactory course progress to make the most of this increased cap.

Student visa holders already working in the elderly care sector can work unrestricted hours until December 31, 2023.

This temporary provision acknowledges the crucial role these students play in the elderly care sector, particularly during the ongoing global health challenges. By allowing unrestricted work hours, the Australian government aims to ensure that elderly care facilities have a sufficient workforce to provide quality care to those in need.

Permanent Migration Programme 2023–24

Here’s an insight into various streams and opportunities available for individuals seeking permanent residency.

The planning level for the 2023–24 Permanent Migration Programme has been set at an exciting 190,000 places.

The programme comprises Skill, Family, and special eligibility streams.
Everything counts; your skills that contribute to the country’s economy, family members residing in Australia and special eligibility streams too.

An allocation of 5,000 places has been set for the Global Talent Visa (GTV) Programme.
Are you a highly skilled individual with a track record of exceptional achievements in academia, research, arts, or industry? You are welcome to Australia!

The Business Innovation and Investment Programme (BIIP) visa allocation has been reduced from 5,000 visas in 2022–23 to 1,900 visas in 2023–24.

Overall, these changes in visa rules will empower Indian students studying in Australia to make the most of their education, gain more relevant experience, and enhance their career prospects. This, we believe, will provide a supportive environment for individuals. In short, Indian students now have a better chance to establish themselves professionally, explore their passions, and potentially pursue permanent residency in Australia.

To prove you’re ready to rock your student life, you’ll need to show your English proficiency, and prove that you’ve got the funds to cover your stay (yeah, they want to make sure you’re not living on bread and jam alone), hold overseas student health insurance, and meet the character and health criteria.

It’s a checklist, but one that’s totally manageable if you come prepared.

Let’s break it down further. Here’s a brief guide on the requirements for obtaining a study visa in Australia:

Study Visa

Once you’ve got these requirements covered, it’s time to dive into the application process.

The Visa Application Process

The application process starts online, right on the Department of Home Affairs website.

You’ll be filling out the necessary form and attaching those important documents. Oh, and don’t forget, there’s a visa application charge to take care of.

Pro tip: aim to submit your application at least six weeks before your course kicks off. This gives you ample time to sort everything out and ensure a smooth start. TBH, a little bit of planning goes a long way.

After the Visa Approval

Once your visa is approved, you can enter Australia up to 90 days before your course starts.

Oh, and don’t forget to let your education provider know about your residential address within seven days of touchdown. And guess what?

While you’re hitting the books, you can also opt for a part-time gig. This way, you can get a taste of that Australian work culture while keeping your financial game strong. It’s a win-win, buddy!

But before you get on that plane, there are a few things you need to take care of:

Once you’re all settled in Australia, ready to embark on your academic journey, don’t forget to make the most of your experience. Study hard, explore, immerse yourself in the country’s culture, and embrace any opportunity that comes your way.

Renewing Your Visa

Here’s what you have to do if you’re looking to keep your studies going strong in Australia even after your visa expires: apply for a new one. It’s a process that echoes the initial application, so make sure to get on it before your current visa expires.

Bringing Family Members

Oh! By the way, did you know that your student visa can also bring your family members along for the ride?

Yes, you can include them in your visa application, just make sure they meet all the visa requirements.

It’s a great opportunity to have your loved ones right there with you as you dive into your studies and create amazing memories together.

In Conclusion

Securing that Study Visa for Australia is a vital milestone on your journey. Sure, the process can seem overwhelming at first, but with some careful planning and understanding of the requirements, you’ll be well on your way to Australia, which will enrich your life like no other.

Remember, it’s not just about getting that visa approved; it’s about seizing every opportunity that comes your way as an international student in Australia.

Securing permanent residency (PR) in Australia is a dream for many individuals seeking to build a better future.

However, the Australian PR application process can be complex and demanding.

In 2023, several reasons can contribute to the rejection of PR applications. Understanding these reasons can help applicants avoid common pitfalls and increase their chances of success.

This blog post will highlight the top reasons for Australia PR application rejections in 2023, providing valuable insights and guidance for prospective applicants.

* Please note, all information provided here is general in nature, as every individual may have their own challenges. We highly recommend speaking to our expert consultants before deciding your options.

Incomplete or Inaccurate Documentation

One of the primary reasons for PR application rejections is incomplete or inaccurate documentation.

Applicants must ensure that all required documents are submitted in the specified format and meet the eligibility criteria outlined by the Department of Home Affairs.

Failure to provide essential documents such as identity proof, educational certificates, language proficiency test results, or evidence of work experience can lead to immediate rejection. So,

Insufficient Points for SkillSelect

Australia follows a points-based immigration system called SkillSelect, where applicants are awarded points based on various factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and more.

The points requirement may vary depending on the specific visa subclass and occupation. Insufficient points can lead to the rejection of PR applications. So,

Inadequate Skills Assessment

Many visa subclasses require applicants to go through a skills assessment by the appropriate assessing authority before submitting a PR application.

This assessment verifies an individual’s skills and qualifications against Australian standards.

Providing an incorrect or incomplete skills assessment or failing to meet the minimum requirements can lead to application rejection.

Health or Character Issues

Applicants must meet health and character requirements to be eligible for PR in Australia.

A comprehensive health examination conducted by authorised panel physicians is necessary to ensure the absence of any health conditions that may pose a threat to public health.

Similarly, character assessments aim to ensure that applicants meet the ethical standards set by the Australian government. Failure to meet these requirements can lead to PR application rejection. So,

Changes in Immigration Policies

Australia’s immigration policies are subject to change, and applicants must stay updated with the latest regulations.

Failure to comply with the new policies, visa quotas, or changes in occupation lists can result in application rejections. So,

While the PR application process may seem daunting, applicants can take proactive steps to minimize the risk of rejection. Seeking professional guidance from registered migration agents or immigration consultants can always help.
