In a significant move, the Australian government announced changes in visa rules for skilled foreign migrants, artists, and sportspeople recently.
Bold Measures
As part of the bold gesture, every skilled foreign migrant hired for seasonal work on farms will be allotted extension for up to 4 years. It will help farmers to operate and enable more workers to join the workforce in large numbers, briefed a government source.
Others granted with 8-year visas and added to the long-term skills list are artists and sponsored sportsmen. These changes within the Regional Occupation List (ROL) are designed to target workforce shortages. Since the past couple of years, there has been a steady decline in the numbers of local youth not filling the country’s jobs. The administration has also introduced a Permanent Residency pathway for these sponsored workers who are residing in designated areas. Along with concessions in English language requirements, there are no constraints as far as their work experience, and salary requirements are concerned.
On the contrary, filing a visa within the short-term shortage list was meant for two years. It used to be difficult for the entire family to migrate to the country on work purposes, the source added.
Besides, the numbers of skilled workers reduced drastically despite growing demand in horticulture segment. But with the new visa rules in place, agriculture migrants can seek benefits of 4-year working visas and be present in a particular region to find employment in farming activity.
Similarly, sportsmen like tennis coaches, footballers, and sponsored artists are amongst the 8 professions added in the long-term skills list. These changes will help the country’s football clubs to attract international talent thereby promoting sports at international level.
Regional Occupation List
It was Department of Home Affairs that had introduced list for RSMS (Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme) Visa effective from March last month. In other words, it was the ROL (Regional Occupations List) addressing specific needs of regional Australia with the list valid for skilled visa programs. Under the visa program, applicants can apply for Skilled Regional Provisional Visa – subclass 489 after meeting the eligibility criteria.
On the other hand, the ROL list helps subclass 489 applicants nominated by the state or territory government. They can seek an invite from the government after filing their applications before or after March 18, 2019. Interestingly, the list targets individuals filing subclass 407, TSS (M) applications.
The new list has 59 occupations comprising the Regional Occupation demand list. Specifically, the government has enforced regional visas to ease migrant population overcrowding in big cities such as Melbourne and Sydney. However, 23,000 individuals received their visa permits to work in any city outside the major cities.
In a nutshell, these significant changes are applicable for new visa applicants and won’t affect those seeking nominations.
South Australia is among the fastest growing Australian provinces. The state government has been inviting thousands of applicants to come and join its workforce for the past couple of years. It has been providing several migration concessions to students and professionals.

d. Mention filenames
Every detail is part of the documentation processes you will be submitting while filing your spouse visa application. It requires lots of patience from your side. Plus, you can land into trouble if there is no substantial evidence mentioned in the application form. If there are PDF files, ensure you specify them in the visa form before forwarding it to immigration authority.
e. Payment fee
You can transact through the bank if you are applying from Australia whereas you can use the country’s electronic bill payment system if you are depositing the sum from outside the country. This way, you avoid surcharge and transfer fee.
f. Proper documentation
At least, you have in hand 60 files. These files comprise soft copy with each one running to 5MB. Organize them in the right order. It will help the Case Officer to verify them without any discrepancy. Besides, you can reduce the time of uploads by placing everything in order.
g. Correct order
Save yourself the trouble from uploading a single file umpteen times. Don’t misplace files with correct order expected from you. Avoid any possibility of re-loads while attaching these documents.
h. Upload more than once
Sometimes, you face new challenges. For citizenship, travel documents and identity purposes, you are told to upload your passport. It is not once you will be uploading it but on many occasions. There are other questions which look similar, but the context appears to be different. Here too, you have to upload them frequently.
i. Health and character checks
Scrutinize all documents related to your health and character certificates. Beforehand, you have to complete the partner visa verification process. Attach substantial proofs which support these documents. Be it—hard copy or soft copy, ensure you take necessary steps at the earliest.
In hindsight, these pertinent issues can be dealt with amicably with correct planning and strategy. Don’t overlook minute details, but proper time management and efficiency alone solve many problems vis-à-vis the expensive Australian visa. It’s always good to inquire, especially when you spend some of your own, no matter if that’s your time or money…
Most of the candidates simply trust the organizations, without even inquiring about what they are getting into and what they are spending so heavily on. They know that they have other options, but something in ‘urgency’ and ‘hurriedness’ does cost them, leaving behind a belief that they won’t be able to make it ever.
It’s always better to avoid such nuisances by simply asking your heart out to the education consultants or the organization you are putting your money on. Ten questions that will surely clear your mindset are:
- What kind of Colleges / Universities do you offer?
Well, this question is kept on the top for one simple reason. You should know where you are going and where you are planning to study. People will surely lure you into their traps, simply for making you their client, earning money. But this is not what you desire. Ask them everything in regards for the university that they are offering you to go in. Ask them about the reference of the candidates that they have already offered that university. At the end, make sure that you are in safe hands and are not fooled. - How many visas have been processed successfully from your company?
Again, this question will make your vision clear enough about how the company is. The number of visas it has processed and how much successful it is will surely let you know how trustworthy that company is. Every individual demands some kind of an experience or at least some relevant knowledge from the agent he/she is consulting. - Can you provide the references of the students the file of whom you processed earlier?
Check out for the testimonials of the students or the candidates that got their visa processed from that company. See what are their views, how many days did it take for them to get everything done. If possible, try to contact them and take their reviews about the same. This can let you know how to process further and how to get through your student visa. - Do you have any branches / associates in other countries where you are sending students for further study?
This question might surely help as where you are going is completely a new country, where you might not find anyone to assist if in any situation in regards for your student visa. Many visa consultants work only in India, leaving behind all the assistance to the candidate in overseas. Therefore, it is always a must to ask this beforehand to the agent if they have their office(s) in Australia or not. - Does the consultant have expertise in an area you perceive as needing attention?
Well, every candidate has his own assembled set of questions, at which he/she expects the counsellor to be the best. If at all you ask this, the agent will always answer being positive, rather ask him/her something relevant which can test his/her skills. - Do you help in overall student visa process –SOP, Admission, Issuance of CoE till Visa filling?
Students usually have to submit their SOP and all the required documents to the university as well as the Department of Home Affairs. You must ask the agent whether they provide the candidate with these facilities or not. This can indeed ease off the things from the student’s end. - Do you guarantee admission to a school / college in one of his/her top choices?
Yes, because many of them do give a guarantee, but them turn themselves off. Make a firm decision from yours as well as from their end to receive a guaranteed response, else it would never be their fault if you do not get into any university. This is the best question you can ask the agent! - Do you provide on shore help if we will have any sort of problem there?
Some people might skip this question, but this can surely help you out. You may never know what is going to happen, so why not stay prepared for the things that can come up. Ask them if they can help you after you reach Australia in regards to your student visa. - What happens if my application is denied?
A minuscule percentage of applicants are denied with Australian student visas by the country’s immigration authorities. If some applications are delayed with relevant documents not submitted or if your application heads for rejection, you can inquire with immigration agent who helps you with different review or appeal options. On some occasions, you will receive the sum. Don’t collect refund without appealing your case. Ensure your appeal is heard by the immigration authorities. Seek assistance from an immigration agent helping you to carry out this process. - Why hiring an education agent is a fast track to success?
Students are at a receiving end and don’t get necessary help of an immigration agent especially at the time of applying for Australian student visa. There is no need to submit your application without consulting the agent. Without which, you are bound to commit mistakes. In fact, a consultant has to possess vast knowledge and ensure your visa is being approved on time.

With the majority of these youth new to the country and don’t have relatives residing here, these questions tend to be universal. Be aware of the vital fact that the country is developed hence attracting thousands of students each year. It is not an alien land for each of them arriving in large numbers on Australian student visas. Finding decent accommodation is not grave as it seems to be.
Adopt the right approach to counter many doubts. Listed below are some points:
1. Accommodation within campus
Neither you wish to travel long distances between your institute and home. Your accommodation is situated right on the college campus. Premier universities in the country provide international students with their on-campus housing.
As a student, many benefits are in the offing. Alongside university accommodation, you can visit a library nearby and refer to books as part of your study or reach a lecture room for group lectures. Since you paid for the accommodation, there doesn’t raise any issue of worrying over cleanliness. At best, experience joy of living in the university with you and your classmates taking notes and sharing. Another benefit regarding this accommodation type is that no landlords are providing you with lease agreements.
Due to many international students arriving on study purposes each year, you have to ensure to pay up accommodation fees on time after registration of the university’s degree program.
2. Accommodation outside campus
In case you want to stay alone, you can opt for private housing. Since it is off-campus, you don’t have difficulty paying a huge sum. This accommodation can be well-tried. Experience luxury living. Rather than living in hostels, you can book for rental housing in a shared apartment or a studio flat. Living in these places may help you to experience as if you are living at your home.
3. Family stay
On some occasions, you might feel lonely while living independently or you would not like to enjoy the company of living with others in a shared apartment. If you want to stay with an Australian family, there are many places where you can get decent accommodation as per your budget. Majority of students prefer to stay with these families; hence this type of housing is gaining popularity with each passing day. Since many universities will help you to find an affordable home stay, it is advisable you conduct your research and find the right one as per your liking.
4. Sharing room/house
This point is similar to accommodation outside campus, but budget factors are evaluated here. Share a room/house that is affordable rather than moving into a luxurious flat. If you don’t have trouble sharing your accommodation with 5-6 people keeping studies in mind, this kind of luxury comes handy.

Following its popularity in 2018, Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) continues to take center stage and expected to dominate in 2019. Termed as economic immigration program, it caters to the needs of thousands of individuals planning to migrate to the country.
PNP Program allows several provinces/territories to nominate immigrants for PR (Permanent Residency) each year. It also allows every province/territory to select candidates from the country’s Express Entry system. The Entry system is amongst the three federal economic immigration programs.
Citing an instance, an Express Entry candidate who is nominated by Canadian province/territory receives 600 points toward his ranking score thereby receiving an invitation to apply for Canadian PR.
On the other hand, base nominations refer to PNP nominations which are issued outside the Entry system through PNP streams.
In 2018, 9 Canadian provinces and 2 territories took part in the PNP with an allocation of 34,700 nominations. This is an increase of 1,300 from 2017. Sources said PNP allocations are expected to rise this year too with numbers not released yet.
Significant increase in PNP numbers has been reflected due to increase in number of admissions through PNP. These admissions comprise those applicants who are nominated along with their family members.
However, PNP admissions are expected to rise phenomenally this year to 61,000 permanent residents. By 2021, the numbers will reach 71,300.
