Benefits of the Training Visa

A training visa provides an opportunity to temporarily stay in Australia for occupational training or professional development purposes.

Under the 407 visa, you can engage in one of these occupational training types:

1. Training for Registration or Licensing: This is for individuals needing to obtain registration, membership, or licensing to practice an occupation either in their home country or in Australia.

2. Structured Workplace Training for Skill Enhancement: Aimed at individuals nominated by an approved temporary activities sponsor in Australia for a specified occupation in the eligible skilled occupations list, who need structured workplace training to enhance their occupational skills.

3. Training for Skill Sharpening or Competency Enhancement: This training is categorized into:

  • Overseas Qualification: For students at foreign educational institutions requiring practical training, research, or observation to complete their degree or qualification. Applying for a training visa under this category offers a valuable opportunity.
  • Government Support: For individuals supported by a government agency from their home country or Australia for structured workplace-based occupational training.
  • Professional Development: For overseas employers seeking a tailored professional development program for their employees to contribute to the organization’s growth.

Note: The SOL (Skilled Occupation List) was replaced by the STSOL (Short Term Skilled Occupation List) on 19th April 2017. There is now a combined list of eligible skilled occupations, set to be revised on July 1st, 2017, and updated biannually.
