What is the IRON Program?

The Initial Registration for Overseas Nurses (IRON) Program is a bridging program for overseas qualified nurses to equip them to practice as registered nurse (RN) or enrolled nurse (EN) in Australia. The program is aimed to supplement nursing skills of current and qualified health professionals to adhere to Australian standards. Successful completion of this program makes the graduates eligible to get registration from the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Authority (AHPRA).

How to apply for the IRON Program?

What are the entry requirements?

  • Evidence of current registration as a registered nurse in a country other than Australia
  • A letter of referral from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to study an approved bridging program in Australia. This letter stipulates your eligibility for registration as a registered nurse in Australia –Aussizz can personally help you with this service
    Meet the relevant standard for English Language proficiency
  • IELTS (7 overall with no band lower than 7)
  • OET (Minimum grade of B in all bands)
  • PTE (65 overall with a minimum score of 65 in each component)
  • TOEFL (94 overall with a minimum score of 24 in reading, 24 in listening, 27 in writing and 23 in speaking)
  • For any of the above test, within 6 months of the duration of first exam, results can be combined from two sittings as long as the minimum score for the specific test is reached. For eg: for IELTS a minimum score of 6.5 in a single specific module will still see you through as long the score is compensated with a band 7 score in a subsequent test in the same module that is taken within the next 6 months of the first test.

  • 1. How long is the IRON Program?

    The IRON Course runs for 10-12 weeks

  • 2. How much does the IRON Program cost??

    Fee for IRON Program course starts from $12,000 and it depends on your choice of institution.

  • 3. Are there growth opportunities after undergoing the IRON Course?

    Upon course completion, the institution the student is enrolled in submits his/her course completion documents to AHPRA. AHPRA shall then issue RN/EN license to students who meet relevant requirements.

    Upon course completion, candidates can opt to undergo Work Training Program for Nurses (WTPN) and change their visa status to Subclass 402. Whilst undergoing training, candidates can look for employers or institutions for visa sponsorship.     Candidates can also opt to go back to their home country and apply for PR to Australia as RN (Registered Nurse).

    Candidates with excellent performance can be sponsored by healthcare institutions associated to institutions.

  • 4. How can I apply for PR after finishing the IRON Program?

    Apply for skills assessment through the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC).

    Meet minimum point requirement for PR application.

    - Candidates with 60 points are eligible to apply for Direct PR under subclass 189.
    - Candidates with 55 points are eligible to apply for State Sponsorship under subclass 190
    - Candidates with 50 points are eligible to apply for Regional Sponsorship under subclass 489.
    - Candidates with points less than 50 can make the application with Employee Sponsorship.
