Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program May Dominate in 2019!

Following its popularity in 2018, Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) continues to take center stage and expected to dominate in 2019. Termed as economic immigration program, it caters to the needs of thousands of individuals planning to migrate to the country.

PNP Program allows several provinces/territories to nominate immigrants for PR (Permanent Residency) each year. It also allows every province/territory to select candidates from the country’s Express Entry system. The Entry system is amongst the three federal economic immigration programs.

Citing an instance, an Express Entry candidate who is nominated by Canadian province/territory receives 600 points toward his ranking score thereby receiving an invitation to apply for Canadian PR.

On the other hand, base nominations refer to PNP nominations which are issued outside the Entry system through PNP streams.

In 2018, 9 Canadian provinces and 2 territories took part in the PNP with an allocation of 34,700 nominations. This is an increase of 1,300 from 2017. Sources said PNP allocations are expected to rise this year too with numbers not released yet.

Significant increase in PNP numbers has been reflected due to increase in number of admissions through PNP. These admissions comprise those applicants who are nominated along with their family members.

However, PNP admissions are expected to rise phenomenally this year to 61,000 permanent residents. By 2021, the numbers will reach 71,300.
