Western Australia offers A$2000 to international students

Australia opened borders for international students on December 15. But, border restrictions for Western Australia mean students cannot return with the state remaining closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier, the state planned to reopen to the rest of Australia on Feb 5, but it had to reverse the decision. Only those with permission can enter the country. As part of the new package, the administration is allocating A$16 million to the international education sector.

The state is allocating A$8 million for SQSP (Student Quarantine Support Program). Nearly A$2000 payments are meant to assist overseas students with quarantine-related costs in Semester 1.

Australia to reopen international borders from Feb 21

After two years of the pandemic, the Australian administration has decided to reopen international borders from February 21. The move will protect the health of Australians and even boost the economy.

Children no longer have to isolate themselves for 14 days. These developments come with international flights to start from all Canadian airports from February end.

However, the pre-arrival antigen tests have to be approved by the country’s travelers. One should administer no more than 24 hours before arriving at the border. One should refrain from taking rapid antigen tests at home as it is insufficient to meet the pre-entry requirement. The test has to be administered by a healthcare entity, telehealth service, or a laboratory.


Relaxation of UK immigration rules for migrant workers

Now, care workers are added to the SOL (Shortage Occupation List) for one year amid growing staff shortages. It will allow them to get work visas for jobs. 3-year extension for 491, 494 temporary visa holders in Australia

Extend your Australian stay by 3 years if you are a temporary skilled migrant on Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa and Subclass 494 Skilled Employer-Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa. This comes after the Australian administration announced visa extension for skilled migrants affected due to the pandemic.

Currently, there are nearly 10,000 skilled regional workers in Australia. They were concerned by the impact of Covid-19 leading to international travel restrictions.

According to Alex Hawke, Australian Immigration Minister, the move will provide additional time for both the current and former visa holders who can make travel arrangements in advance. They can start or resume working and living in regional Australia.

Australia to allow entry of Temporary Graduate holders from Feb 18

In an unprecedented move, the Morrison government is considering changes to allow the entry of current and former Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate visa holders in Australia from February 18. They can re-enter the country and apply for a further stay.

Interestingly, those graduates outside Australia between February 1 and December 14 can also avail of visa extensions. These graduates held a valid Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate Visa. The visa holders will be notified by the Australia DHA (Department of Home Affairs) of their visa extension.

43k+ overseas students, 60k family members in Australia

More number of international travelers entered Australia since November 2021. The numbers speak for themselves. These include 43,000 international students and 60,000 family members who arrived in the country. Earlier, the Morrison administration announced only fully vaccinated visa holders can enter Australia. The list includes skilled and student cohorts, working holidaymakers, humanitarian, and family visa holders.

Currently, there are over 150,000 International Student visa holders abroad. The list of vaccinated individuals includes 8,000 skilled workers and 22,000 Working Holiday Maker visas.

NSW opens January submissions for 491 visa applicants

New South Wales has opened January submissions for those applicants who want to apply for Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa and avail Australian Permanent Residency.

Both eligible students and skilled professionals can apply by submitting ROI (registration of interest) by January 31 this month. The next submission window will open in March.

With the help of this skilled visa, applicants will be able to live, study and work in the Regional Area of NSW for up to 5 years. It will help them travel to and fro the island nation umpteen times. The application can include family members too.

Sep 2021 invitation rounds for Canada PNP-focused Express Entry

Nearly 6,500 individuals were issued with Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in September. It is part of the Canadian PNP (Provincial Nomination Program). The program indicates different provincial governments select candidates to meet the labour needs of the respective province and manage the immigration population of the regional area if applicants intend to work and settle in Canada. Each provincial government has to select foreign workers as per their criteria. These workers have to be eligible for Canada permanent resident as per the respective PNP.

It is the country’s provinces that play a crucial role in selecting immigrants as per PNP. PNP program became the second important route for these individuals who want to apply for Permanent Residency in Canada.

Going by the estimates, IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) conducted 3 Canada Express Entry draws targeting PNP candidates. It issued 635 ITAs as of Sep 1, another 521 ITAs on Sep 15, and it was 761 ITAs till Sep 29.

The number of Express Entry invitations through the PNP program was higher in September compared to the previous months.

Earlier, IRCC conducted draws under PNP and CEC (Canadian Experience Class) categories from 2021-start. So far, there have been 18 Provincial Nominee Program draws with ITAs through the Express Entry program. It has doubled now from the previous year.

Sep 14

The province held invitation rounds for Ph.D. Graduate & Masters Graduates. It invited 691 international student graduates who can apply for the Ontario Provincial Nomination Program. Nearly 627 candidates were issued invitations under the Master Graduate stream. They, however, need EOI (Expression of Interest) scores of at least 35 and above. Nearly 64 candidates with Expression of Interest (EOI) scores of 16 and above were issued ITAs under Ph.D. Graduate stream.

Sep 21

Ontario invited candidates under different streams. These include Foreign Worker, Employer Job Offer, and an Employer job offer: International Student.

Besides, there were new invitation rounds for 995 candidates under Ontario Provincial Nomination Program.

Sep 22

Ontario held an In-Demand Skills stream under the new intake system. It had invited 65 candidates.

Overall, the province invited to apply 1,751 candidates for provincial nomination in September. The number is more than 875 compared to the previous month.


In September, 3 invitation rounds were part of the Canada Express Entry stream of AINP (Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program).

Sep 7

AINP held its draw with 500 candidates who secured Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) of 300 bagging invitations.

Sep 14 & Sep 21

2 Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) on Sep 14 and Sep 21 held draws. Nearly 835 candidates were issued invited to apply (ITAs) for the provincial nomination.

As per the data, the invitations as per the three Nominee Program draws were 1,335 in September.


Sep 2 and Sep 23

2 draws through three streams, i.e. International Education Stream, Skilled Workers in Manitoba, and Skilled Workers Overseas, were held.

In all, there were 1,252 Letters of Advice to Apply invitations. Nearly 236 candidates who declared their valid Express Entry profile were issued invitations.


The province over the past month held six draws with invitations issued to 994 candidates for the provincial nomination under Express Entry BC (British Columbia) and Skills Immigration streams.


Sep 8 and Sep 27

Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) through Canada EE (Express Entry) and OID (Occupations In-Demand) sub-categories of ISWC (International Skilled Worker Category) held invitation rounds.

The province had issued 919 ITAs for the provincial nomination.

Sep 2

The province held the second draw of the Entrepreneur Stream draw of 2021. It issued invitations to 41 individuals with a 110 minimum score.


Sep 16 – Prince Edward Island province held a pre-scheduled draw with invitations issued to 143 candidates. Nearly 129 candidates received invitations under EE and Labour Impact programs.


Sep 13

The province conducted two immigration draws in September.

Nearly 30 candidates through two streams of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) were issued invitations. Out of the 2 draws conducted, one round resulted in 28 invitations under the ES (Entrepreneur Stream) with 120 points of minimum score. IGE (International Graduate Entrepreneur) stream held two invitations. Invitation of one of the candidates was 57 points.


Canada suspends international flights from India

Canada has suspended international flights from India till September 21 in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. Students who plan to study in Canada will have to wait for some time. Passengers traveling on this route will have to provide pre-departure negative molecular test results from the third country before continuing their journey to the North American nation.

It is, however, compulsory for those individuals who tested positive to get the Covid-19 molecular test 14-90 days before departure rather than a negative molecular test. Travelers also need to seek permission and stay in the third country for two weeks. These guidelines are mandatory for all those who want to study, work and settle in Canada.

Points to remember :-

  • - Some countries do not permit entry or transit of passengers arriving from India, or those who tested positive
  • - The Covid-19 testing for passengers is not available in third countries and international airports
  • - If you have been tested positive during transit, you might be quarantined or will have to return to the place of departure.

Canada accepts 7,300 applications for graduate stream

With the launch of the Permanent Residence from Temporary Residence program, the Canadian government has increased the 40,000 overseas graduates’ intake cap for those applicants who want to study and work in Canada. Quebec immigration draw invites 502 candidates

As part of the Arima draw, Quebec invited the list of 502 candidates to apply for Permanent selection in August this year. The immigration department issued invitations to those desiring to settle and work in Canada under QSWP (Quebec Regular Skilled Worker Program). Every candidate under the federal skilled worker program must register their EOI (Expression of Interest) in Arima, i.e. Quebec’s online registration portal.

British Columbia PNP invites 74 candidates in Tech draw

British Columbia has issued invitations to 74 candidates who want to work in Canada especially in technology occupations for a provincial nomination in August this year. The new invitations were part of BC PNP (British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program).

Saskatchewan invitations for 496 immigrants

It is the Saskatchewan province that held a new immigration draw for nearly 496 immigrants in August this year. Australia student visa fee update

The immigration department has given the leverage to waive Australian student visa fees of those international students who submitted a further visa application to complete their studies. It is allowed to those who held a student visa on or after February 1. They could not complete the course with the existing visa due to the pandemic. The fee applies to those who :-

  • * Kept on hold visa for study in Australia and were unable to enter the country due to travel restrictions
  • * Were deprived to reduce part-time study load
  • * Unable to complete work-based placements and training

The measure is not meant for those international students applying for a student visa due to ordinary circumstances.

A Bridging Visa will be issued in case you are applying for a fee waiver. However, the fee exemption has to be checked first. The waiver applies to the student visa application fee.

Refunds will be available for only those students who applied for a student visa earlier. New applications on the other hand will be eligible to have Australian student visa application fee waived.
