Sub-Categories

Compulsory and Optional Trades Category

The following are the criteria under which you could become eligible under the Compulsory and Optional Trades Category:

  • You should have a valid work permit.
  • You should be residing in Alberta while applying for, and holding a valid work permit.
  • You should intend to live and work full-time in Alberta.
  • You’d have to be in an occupation that is considered an optional or a compulsory trade, such as the job of a foreman or a supervisor.
  • You’d need to have an Alberta Qualification Certificate or a Recognized Trade Certificate in the particular trade you’re pursuing.
  • You must also prove, at the time you apply, that you are in fact working, currently, for an Alberta employer in their trade; or you should be able to show that you’ve had at least a 6-month experience doing so, sometime in the last 3 years.

Engineering Occupations Category

The following are the criteria under which you could become eligible under the Engineering Occupations Category:

  • You should intend to live and work full-time in Alberta.
  • You should have either current or a recent work experience/education as an engineer, a designer, or a drafter.
  • You should be able to show that you’re either currently working with an Albertan employer, or have had for at least 2 years. Work on a contractual basis will also count.
  • Only a job under one of the occupations under the AINP Strategic Recruitment Stream Engineering List would grant you eligibility under this stream. Candidates will also be required to provide a Letter of No Objection from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), for the same. The categories are:
  • You must also prove, at the time you apply, that you are in fact working, currently, for an Alberta employer in their trade; or you should be able to show that you’ve had at least a 6-month experience doing so, sometime in the last 3 years.
    • Engineering Managers
    • Civil Engineers
    • Mechanical Engineers
    • Electrical and Electronic Engineers
    • Chemical Engineers
    • Industrial and Manufacturing Engineers
    • Drafting Technologists and Technicians

Post-Graduate Worker Category

The following are the criteria under which you could become eligible under the Post-Graduate Worker Category:

  • You should intend to live and work full-time in Alberta.
  • You should be permanently residing in Alberta, while working for an Albertan employer, while applying.
  • You should have pursued at least a one-year degree, diploma, or certificate program from a valid Canadian post-secondary educational institute in Alberta, to gain the right and necessary qualifications for your job.
  • You should have a valid postgraduate work permit.
  • As for your employment, you should have an NOC level of 0, A, B or C.
  • For those with employment under an NOC level C, a language proficiency proof will be required.
